Accounting Assistant is an entry-level position within the Accounting Series. Under direction of the Senior Accountant, the Accounting Assistant performs routine clerical accounting duties related to the preparation, processing, and maintenance of statistical and financial records in accordance with (SJRRC) established procedures and governmental accounting standards and regulations. The position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipting and entry level reconciliations.
As experience is gained more complex and varied tasks will be assigned. Supervision and frequent review of work will lessen as incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the second level, although they are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.
